Hello all!
Today I’m participating in the Winter Spell Blog Tour for Claire M. Banschbach by interviewing the author! I’m excited to be interviewing Claire because she is the author of Oath of an Outcast in addition to this wonderful book. In fact, this is my second interview with her. You can read the first here.
Alright, here are the questions:
What inspired you to write The Faeries of Myrnius series?
Adela’s Curse (book 1) was originally started because of a scene that popped into my head. It’s a scene that happens at the end of the book and not even to the main character Adela. But I backtracked it from there and book 1 was written. I’d really enjoyed the little glimpse into this world, and then got the idea for a prince turned into a wolf. And then a faery that has not magic, but somehow manages to freeze the world. Adela’s Curse was actually like the third or fourth book I’d ever written, so it’s been at least an 8-year journey from the first draft of book 1 to publishing book 3!
Wow, that’s amazing! I wonder if you have more books planned.
Which character is your favorite from the series (I promise I won’t tell the others 😉 )
From the entire series? Not fair! I’m very fond of Damian and his grumpy brother Felix (from The Wolf Prince). But if you were to really twist my arm, I think it’d be Tonya from Winter Spell. She got a lot of my experience of self doubt and wanting for more, and she was so just so easy to write. I loved getting to finally write her story.
Oooh! Interesting.
What’s one thing you wish others knew about you?
That I really can eat an entire pizza by myself, even though I’ve encountered doubters.
For me, it’s a box of cookies, so I don’t doubt you, for sure!
If you could pick one book series to reread every year, what would be?
Ooh, tough question! Maybe the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I finally re-read them last year and had forgotten how amazing they are!
I keep hearing good things about the Lunar Chronicles, so I think I need to read them!
When did you start writing and what made you want to self-publish some of your novels?
I started writing when I was about 17 years old, in my senior year of high school. I’d had an idea for a story that I’d just kind of kept in my head for years, and then I decided to start writing it as a way to move on from it. Ha! It just got me addicted to writing. I published my first two novels through a press, but then got interested in self publishing as I started connecting with other authors and liking the idea of the control over story, and just finding some amazing, supportive indie communities!
I agree, being an Indie is amazing! It’s so awesome.
On to the book!
Synopsis:
A half-breed faery. A war-weary princess. A quest to free three kingdoms from the deadly winter spell.
Constantly doubted by her ocean faery kindred, Tonya Freyr-dottir only wants to untangle the dormant ice and water magic within her. Then a strange attack makes her unleash a fierce winter on the land and sea. And she has no idea how to stop it.
Princess Diane serves faithfully at her brother’s side, trying to restore their kingdom of Myrnius after the devastating Dark War. Now with brutal winter wreaking havoc, everything they have worked for might be lost to famine and destruction.
Desperate to help, Tonya travels to the far north to unlock her magic, aided by Diane, as well as two land faeries: Dorian, a reckless healer and August, a mischievous warrior. But the north brings fresh dangers, unearths old wounds, and offers more questions than answers.
With doom threatening human and faery alike, Tonya must find a way to trust her new friends and release her magic before all fall to the fury of winter’s spell.

This book looks enchanting! I’ll definitely have to read the others in the series!
Absolutely!
Great interview! And Tonya is a new favorite character of mine. I loved all the characters in this series, but the cast in this book was especially enjoyable 🙂
That is cool!
Thanks so much for hosting me!! <3
