These books are all wonderful stories that are interwoven with God’s truth. Christian Fantasy Novellas are quick to read over a weekend and filled with adventure packed with powerful messages.
What is Christian Fantasy?
Christian Fantasy is fantastical fiction that contains elements of faith, such as prayer, reading the Bible, or an allegorical God figure.
An example of Christian Fantasy is The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. This book contains a “God” figure in Aslan, portraying Jesus’ death and resurrection in its pages.
There are many Christians who choose to write fantasy without any allegorical or direct references to Christianity. Often, these books are categorized as clean fantasy.
An example of clean fantasy written by a Christian is The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. He even argued his books were not allegorical, but contained applicable lessons for Christians.
Christian Fantasy novellas are essentially shorter versions of this.
What is a novella?
Although there is disagreement around the length of short stories, novellas, and novels, I tend to break it into these categories:
Short Stories: Between 1-50 pages. I don’t think short stories should be much longer than that.
Novelette: Between 50-75 pages. This is a weird in-between book size, so it’s hard to measure.
Novella: Between 75-150 pages. This is a bit longer, but not quite long enough to be a novel.
The novellas listed below are more than 100 pages, but less than what I consider a full-length novel (which is more around 200).
1. Broken Pieces
This Christian Fantasy novella was one of the first novellas I read. Poignant and allegorical, this story will move you as you read.
Blurb:
Catherine DeLacey lives in a world where mental and emotional traumas manifest as glass-like shards that grow inside of people’s chests. Faced with lives full of suffering, many turn to specialists to have their shards surgically removed.
Catherine’s shard is too large for even the most skilled surgeons to handle safely.
Unable to live with the agony any longer, Catherine plans to take her own life until a close friend tells her the story of a woman who had a similar shard removed successfully by a mysterious source. Armed with this new hope, Catherine sets out on her journey, but as her time runs out, that hope begins to die.
Will she find a way to remove her shard? Or will she give in to despair?

2. Toothbreaker
I think it would be remiss of me to not include my own Christian Fantasy Novella. This book is dear to my heart because it was my first ever redemption story.
Blurb:
A man who betrayed his people. A woman who once loved him. An Eritam that hunts them both.
Sage has lost everything: Tamar, the Eritam woman he once loved… Fang, the wolf he considered his friend… his status as a Toothbreaker. Even his old friend Vartok tries to hunt him down! Sage knows he must make a choice. Will he continue to serve Malstorm, or surrender to Melchizedek? The wrong choice could cost his life.
This Christian fantasy novella is set alongside Etania’s Worth with tie-in’s to Etania’s Calling, but you don’t have to read either book to read this.

3. Lacy
Although not strictly fantastical, this Christian novella is emotional and intense. A lovely story of redemption is found within these pages.
Blurb:
The last thing Aaron ever envisioned was falling for a prostitute. Everything about it spells trouble. However, he can’t help noticing the way her smile lights up when she sees him and how much brokenness she hides behind it. Neither can he ignore how desperately she needs rescue and protection.
When Lacy shares a life or death secret with him, Aaron is willing to risk everything to help her and to show her Elôm’s love. Yet, such a choice could destroy his reputation and maybe even cost him his freedom.

4. Aivan: the one Truth
This is a very fast-paced, fun and sweet novella that has all the elements you want in a Christian Fantasy, packed in a short length.
Blurb
