Author Interview: Joanna White

Today I had the privilege of interviewing Joanna White, fellow Christian fantasy author! She writes books faster than you can blink and in this interview, you can find out how, as well as read about her latest re-release. Check it out:

1.    What are some of your favorite books and why?

My number one favorite book is the Bible. It’s God’s Word to us and it’s how He speaks to us. It’s not only full of our history, but full of wisdom and things to carry you through the difficult times of life.

2. If you could pick a favorite character from your latest book, who would it be and why?

The latest book I’ve written is Wildfire and my favorite character is definitely Andrew. He’s a soldier who lost his leg in a bad fire and he’s so resilient and always willing to lend a helping hand.

If we’re talking about the latest book I’ve published, my upcoming one is Hunter—I’m re-releasing it. My favorite character from it would be Jared. He makes a good antagonist and can be scary and epic at times. He’s a lot of fun to write. Even though I wrote Hunter back in 2012, he still comes to me easily.

2.    How did you get started writing?

The summer before my sixth-grade school year, I loved the idea of a man imprisoned for something he didn’t do. So, I wrote my first attempt at a mystery called Cell 91. After that, anytime my friends and I would come up with a story, I would be the one to write it and then read it to everyone.

3.    How do you write and publish books so quickly?

Writing has been a passion of mine for a long time. I also became fast at typing through a few typing classes. I pray, and when God inspires me, He allows me to write as fast as I do. Publishing does take time, but I’ve practiced different techniques and try to keep updated on what works and what doesn’t. It does take a good month ahead to do a proper book release, though.

4.    What are some tips you have for writers?

Write every day. When I did the million word challenge in 2020, it got me in a habit of daily writing and my craft became better. It was the best thing I could have done for myself as an author. Writing everyday will give you discipline to over come procrastination and will gradually  help you write faster as it becomes more of an instinct.

The Book

Averella is in prison. Just as she planned.

Determined to rescue her sickly brother at any cost, a disguised Averella gets herself thrown into Zagerah, the most dangerous place in the world. Around every corner are the Hunters, magically enhanced sentries with one mission: execute every prisoner they find to keep the people afraid, weak, and oppressed.

Jared, an experienced member of these assassins, has only known killing, until a mysterious new prisoner shows signs of having Hunter potential. Under orders, Jared disguises himself as a prisoner to get closer to the newest inmate, but both his mission and his resolve are soon shaken by what he discovers.

With her escape plans in shambles and no idea which of the prisoners she can trust, Averella must evade the Hunters while she scrambles for a new way out. But how can she save her brother when she can’t even save herself?
