Author Interview: Kaitlyn King

Today, I had the privilege of interviewing Kaitlyn King, a YA Christian Fantasy/Kingdom Adventure author. Her book, The Forgotten Prince : More than Conquerors Book 1, is really good! I highly recommend reading it.

On to the questions!

Kaitlyn King

What inspired you to write The Forgotten Prince ?

The idea for More than Conquerors [the series name] was sparked by a banner. I was visiting my parents’ church and they revealed the theme for the year was “More than Conquerors.” The banner had a purple background and the words were splashed across a silver shield. I found myself staring at it and the thought popped into my head, “What if there was a kingdom that only valued being a conqueror, and the next generation wanted to be more than that?” By the time the announcements were done, I had the four main characters mapped out.

How did you come up with ideas for your story world?

I feel like my story world is a mash up of all my favorite medieval stories combined. The lands of Camelot, Nottingham, Narnia, and many others were always places that I visited in my imagination. When I started imagining Endor, it felt like it fit right in with those places.

I definitely got that feeling as I read it! It has knights, lords and ladies, and a great world!

What are your favorite YA Christian Fantasy books?

The first YA Christian Fantasy book I ever read was Hyacinth Blue by Tony Nunes. He was just a church deacon that wanted Christian teens to have good books too. He really inspired me. That book will always hold a special place in my heart. A recent favorite of mine is A Soul as Cold as Frost by Jennifer Kropf. It was released last Christmas and I fell in love with the Narnian vibes it gave me.

I’ve heard of Jennifer Kropf’s book (it’s on my TBR list!), but I’ve never heard of Hyacinth Blue. I will have to check it out!

How many books do you plan to have in the series (and when might they be published)?

I plan to have 7 books in the More than Conquerors series. I would love to have one published each year, but I’m learning the publishing process is slower than I would like it to be, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

I understand this completely! I have seven books in mind for The Daughters of Tamnarae series, but publishing one a year hasn’t worked for me (yet!). Hopefully both of us can get books published each year!

Who is your favorite character from the story and why? (Don’t worry, I won’t tell the others!)

I’m not sure I can pick just one favorite character. I love them all for different reasons! I think I relate best to Emeline. Her personality is very similar to mine. I love hearing who other people choose as their favorite character though. It’s one of my favorite experiences as an author.

I love Emeline! She was awesome. I definitely think your MC, Tridan, is my favorite. He’s brave and humble; I just admire him so much.

Thank you for coming on the blog, Kaitlyn!

Blurb:

A Wicked King, A Corrupt Church, And A Forgotten Prince.

Endor, the kingdom of conquerors, is rife with intrigue, manipulation, and even murder.

After his mother’s death, Tridan, the youngest of seven princes, was sent away for his own protection. No one would expect to find a prince feeding sheep at the Lazatus Monastery. It’s a mundane life, but at least it is safe.

That is, it was, until twelve-year-old Tridan finds out it is time to return home to Endor. There, dangers lie around every corridor; even from his own family.

To survive, he will have to become more than a conqueror.
