Author Interview: Tricia Mingerink and Jaye L. Knight

I am so grateful to have not one but two awesome Christian fantasy authors as guests on my blog today. They recently released two amazing books, which are spotlighted at the end of this post.

1. How do you get inspiration to write?

Tricia: Reading a variety of genres gives me random inspiration. I also get a lot of inspiration from all the traveling, camping, and hiking I’ve done across the United States, which is why most of my settings are based on somewhere I’ve personally been.

Jaye: Most of my inspiration probably comes from movies or TV series. I love visual inspiration and getting to study the way characters interact with each other. Of course, I do get inspiration from reading as well.

I am the same way when it comes to inspiration! I am so glad to have fellow authors to relate to about writing.

2. How do you incorporate your faith through your writing?

Jaye: It pretty much just happens naturally. I don’t even know how I would go about writing a story that did not have faith incorporated into it. It’s the only thing in hard times that offers hope. That’s what I always notice when I read non Christian books. There’s no ultimate hope, and it gets rather depressing sometimes. So having that element of hope in my writing is a big deal to me.

Tricia: Like Jaye, my books are overtly Christian fantasy. I spend a lot of time in The Blades of Acktar asking and confronting the hard faith questions.

3. Who is your favorite character from your novels?

Tricia: Leith. Do I need to say more?

Jaye: Jace. Short and simple, like Tricia’s answer. 😀

I’m not sure who I would choose from their novels, but Leith and Jace are among my favorites.

About Bitter Winter

Already struggling with a harsh winter and the threat of food shortage, a catastrophic event leaves those in the Landale camps reeling. Just when things couldn’t get much worse, camp members fall ill with the same devastating sickness that’s sweeping across the country.

Determined to gain the cure, Jace sets off to Valcré. However, there are only two sources—the queen, or a powerful gang of smugglers who have made the dangerous city their home. When Jace gains audience with the gang leader, he finds the price of the cure is steeper than any of them imagined, forcing him to make an impossible choice—betray his conscience or let those he loves die.
