Narrator Interview: Grace Woods

As some of you may or may not know, I’ve been working with a narrator to a produce an audio book. We finished in early March of this year but it has not been approved yet!!!! It’s so frustrating working with ACX. Anyway, enough about them, let’s talk about my lovely narrator, Grace Woods. She is so capable and amazing, I can’t wait for you to e-meet her!

Grace Woods

What inspired you to start narrating audiobooks?

My mother was an animated reader and would create character voices for our bedtime stories. The one that sticks the most is The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe series. We also listened to audio tapes on our road trips. I knew I wanted to be one of those voices coming through the speakers.

What has been your favorite part about narrating?

I really didn’t expect to bond with my character creations so much. I enjoy listening to them and getting transported into the story, even more so than when they were coming to life. My son still can’t believe that is me reading!

What is your least favorite part about narrating?

Editing. Editing editing editing. My dream is to be so busy that I can hire an editor. It’s like being a painter, inspired to create but having to make their own paint, weave their own canvas, make their brushes, and THEN paint. It really saps the creative flow, for me.

What audiobooks do you recommend listening to?

I’ve been in a self-help zone for the last few years, so I’d say anything Brene Brown is a yes. We also listen to children’s audio books and “Interview with a Robot” was a fun one. Also, Story Party is great with a collection of folk tales.

How many accents have you performed?

Well, the 10 or so in your book…and I have a few characters I have created for the entertainment of my children. They usually come out to help clear a grumpy room. They can’t keep a frown when “Hot dog man” comes to visit!

What is one fun fact about you?

When I scratch my left foot, I feel it on my right foot.

Where can authors find you to hire?

I am on acx.com Grace Woods, Facebook and Instagram
