5 Christmas Stories to Read

‘Tis the season to read some Christmas stories and share the joy of the season with others. This year, gather around the fire and read these books!

1.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Who doesn’t think of the faun carrying packages when it comes to Christmas? There’s a reason they released the movie version of this book in December. This book is perfect for the Christmas season, taking children away to a magical land where good triumphs and the snow melts into spring.

2.

You are Special

Although this book could be said to be good for any occasion, I especially enjoy it for Christmas. The story follows a character who feels like he can’t fit in and finds out that meeting his Maker frees him to be who he was created to be. What a lovely reminder during the Christmas season.

3.

A Christmas Carol

Ghosts and Christmas shouldn’t be things that work together, but in this book, they do. The “ghosts” are used to convince crotchety Ebeneezer Scrooge to become a better person. Also, in the book, the supernatural is tamed down to make it more of a character growth point rather than a scare tactic. The main Christmas quality this book conveys is that kindness and love are key elements of the Christmas season.

4.

The Gift of the Magi

This short story about two people who sacrifice their best things to give each other a present is so sweet. I’m not going to convey the sacrifice these characters make, but the plot twist is something most people didn’t see coming! The author also ties in the title with the story at the end, a reminder that giving from the heart is more important than the gift itself.

5.

A beautiful and sweet retelling of The Nutcracker. Fantastical yet realistic, it captures the essence of Christmas in a book. A perfect read for anyone who wants a little of romance, Christmas, and magic rolled into one.
