January 2 is Science Fiction Day, a holiday for all the geeks and nerds to celebrate across the world. But how should we celebrate it? There are three simple ways.
Below are links to various shows and books. As an Amazon Associate, I earn commission from qualifying purchases.
1. Watch television shows or movies.
Stargate SG-1
An awesome show about people travelling to different worlds, battling aliens, and never leaving a person behind.

Star Trek
If fighting aliens isn’t your thing, how about peace talks with them? I think Star Trek is famous for its diplomacy and policies regarding outer space.

Star Wars
One of the more famous series is Star Wars. With light saber fights and dramatic battles between good and evil, what isn’t there to love?

Firefly
A less famous, but certainly as beloved, series to binge watch on Science Fiction Day is Firefly. A Western Science Fiction series where people speak Chinese? Yeah, it’s real, and definitely worth watching.

Doctor Who
A series that is longer than my lifespan but equally as fun to watch is Doctor Who. Definitely worth it just to see Matt Smith and his bow ties.
Start with Matt Smith as the Doctor: https://amzn.to/3MOcBo1
Guardians of the Galaxy
Even though Marvel is usually responsible for superhero movies, I am happy they made the Guardians of the Galaxy. This sarcastic, humorous movie is well worth watching on Sci-fi Day.

Tron
I also really enjoyed both the classic and new version of Tron, which is really a cool story about being immersed in an online world.

I-Robot
One of my favorite science fiction movies is I-Robot because of the questions it brings to mind about the future of Artificial Intelligence and robots.

2. Read Science Fiction books
Out of the Silent Planet
Did you know C.S. Lewis wrote a Science Fiction series? Written before the era of space travel, he imagines a journey to another world that is more unique than any I’ve read.

Ender’s Game
Another great science fiction series is Ender’s Game, an awesome story about war and battle in the future. This is one of the few books that surprised me with its ending.

War of the Worlds
One book I enjoyed reading as a teenager was War of the Worlds. It is just as exciting to read as it was to listen to during the first broadcast it was aired.

3. Dress up or Accessorize
T-Shirts
Okay, so maybe your boss won’t let you wear an outright cosplay outfit to work, but surely one of these t-shirts will be acceptable on Sci-fi Day.

Necklaces
A necklace is an understated way to say that you’re a science fiction fan and can be added to most outfits.

An inexpensive silicone ring that emulates R2-D2 could be the perfect way to celebrate an anniversary, especially if that anniversary lands on Sci-fi Day!
